Ksy Cates Head Coach

Hello Shallowford Sea Lions! My name is Ksy Cates and I will be working with you all this summer! I am so excited to get to know everyone, develop relationships with you and your families as well as have a lot of fun! A little bit about myself. This is my 16th year working as a swim coach and swim lesson instructor. Many of you may know me from the TYDE year round swim team. I have been an assistant coach with the Yadkin Stingrays for the last three years and loved every second of it! In my early 20's I even spent some time in Florida as a swim instructor. I am a very engaging coach. It isn't uncommon to see me on the pool deck trying to demonstrate a skill. There is never a practice where I go home in dry clothes! I love to give all of my swimmers feedback, get in the water with the kids so that I can demonstrate and help them understand certain skills that may be more difficult just hearing about them. I also like to use video as a tool to show kids what they look like during a particular skill. For example, I may tell a swimmer that during flip turns, they cross their ankles. Oftentimes, their reply will be, "No I don't!" Being able to show them the video footage helps them realize what they are really doing in the water versus what they think they are doing in the water. While I believe that technique, form and endurance are all important skills, it's also important to have fun! I love to incorporate fun relays and games into practices and give swimmers their own choices for certain sets. In addition to being a swim coach, I am a full time teacher assistant at Booneville Elementary. I work with several EC classrooms. I am a single mom to an 8 year old son, Masyn. Recently, we have become a rescue family to a huge pyrenees/mastiff mix that we named Bynson. We are hopeful that our apartment complex will allow us to keep him, making him a permanent part of our family! I am excited for the summer to start! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!
